It's always a good idea to keep a roadside emergency kit in your car. A kit contains essentials you may need in the event of a breakdown or worse. What should your roadside emergency kit include? Our Bob Tedford Chevrolet team compiled this short list for your info.

Mechanical Essentials

Mechanical essentials are inanimate or hand-operated items that come in handy when you're stranded:

  • Jumper cables
  • Inflated spare tire, wheel wrench, tripod jack
  • Multipurpose toolkit
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Duct tape
  • Comprehensive first aid kit
  • Bright-colored cloth and reflective triangles to improve vehicle visibility

Personal Essentials

Many automakers and auto insurance companies offer roadside assistance as part of coverage. Just in case, keep the following in your roadside emergency kit for your own personal benefit or the benefit of passengers:

  • Flashlight, extra batteries
  • Compass
  • High-energy nonperishables
  • Reflective vest
  • Rain poncho

No one event wants to think of being stranded, but it may be hours of inclement weather before anyone gets to you. Be sure to also pack cold weather items, such as

  • Cat litter for traction
  • Blankets
  • Warm clothing
  • Snow brush
  • Shovel
  • Windshield washer fluid
